Reason of Choice(Why did you pick this character?): Because I love him. I just love this version's wisdom and determination and all his awesome glory. He's my favorite next to 2003 Splinter. He's also a very different version from 2003's splinter. Both 2003 and 2012 are wonderful in their own way despite being different interpretations.

Splinter is many things. A wise sensei, a loving father, a stern disciplinarian, a quirky master and a zen philosopher. He is always determined to train and protect those he loves at all costs, being protective and cautious. That being said, he also has a tendency to be concerned with giving others their space and independence, believing that a free will is the most important thing as well. While he is very protective and fatherly, he also has a tendency to expect high from others, which leads him to either be too judgmental or too laidback. He is strictly about independence, freedom, good-will and justice hence why he struggles with getting involved into battles that are not really his own. Basically he is strictly about balance in life but has issues with them due to his love and loyalty to others. Speaking of which he is immensely loyal and compassionate, having a humanitarian spirit in nature. He is very kindhearted and relational, but also can be surprisingly sensitive when pushed too far. He has a bit of a temper, when angered he is immensely destructive and confrontational. He has undying loyalty and is very understanding and empathetic. He's caring about others and usually tries to go out of his way for them. He's also quite spiritual and wise, experienced from both a physical and mental standpoint. He always tries to be helpful, usually bringing forth intelligent or kind advice. He is also surprisingly forgiving and understanding, not believing in spite or vengeance. He is compassionate, free-spirted and overall very wise and brave.
History:
Splinter was born as Hamato Yoshi in Tokyo, Japan in 1962 raised by his single father Hamato Yuuta. He was indoctrinated into his father's clan of the Hamatos and was raised to inherit the clan once his father passed. As a child he wished to be an artist but never believed in his creative talents, and he also did not want to displease his more traditional father so he forgot his dream and accepted the clan inheritance as his destiny. His father also adopted Oroku Saki, the son of Oroku Kenji who was a high member of their enemy clan called the Foot Clan. Yoshi and Saki were raised as brothers and were very close as children but drifted apart as the years went by, due to their competitive natures growing more and more, turning them more into rivals than brothers. Their rivalry got worse when they both fell in love with the same girl: Tang Shen. Shen dated Saki at first but quickly broke up with him due to his controlling and jerk-like nature. Shen went to Yoshi for comfort not long after and the two fell in love, dated for a period of time and eventually married. During their engagement, saki challenged Yoshi by calling him names and bullying him in front of Shen. Humiliated, and embarrassed, Yoshi lost his temper and mercilessly beat the snot out of his brother. This caused the rivalry to turn into hatred particularly for Saki. But Yoshi didn't think much of it at the time and just assumed Saki was just being self-entitled, and jealous of Shen's love for him. Shen and Yoshi continued their engagement, got married and eventually had a daughter named Miwa. And it seemed like the life he was happy with, until his father started to get sick and his clan was starting to crumble. Shen rightfully said the clan was falling apart and that they should leave to New York, as it was a better life there for them and Miwa. Due to wanting his father's approval and too deep into his romanticism of the job, he refused at first much to Shen's dismay. However, after realizing shen was just trying to look out for Miwa and him, he eventually complied to her desire.
However the three were never to go to New York as a family. Saki, his brother now enemy, had learned of his adoption and his real clan of The Foot. Feeling betrayed by their father and filled with bitter anger towards Yoshi, Saki confronted Yoshi and shen, demanding that shen choose: Go with him and raise miwa in the foot, or stay by Yoshi's side and risk failure. Shen declared that she already made her choice and then Yoshi got into a physical fight with Saki. It was a fight that got very violent, very quickly and just as saki was about to give the killing blow to Yoshi, shen stood in front of him and took the hit. Killing her instantly. The house they were in set on fire during this fight, burning everything to the ground, luckily Yoshi managed to survive. But he lost his wife and his daughter was no where to be found, so he assumed she also perished in the flames. Devastated and absolutely crushed, with no family or clan of his own, he left for New York to start a new life. One day, he decided to adopt a easy to care for pet, he went inside a pet shop and found four baby turtles. He grew fond of the little turtles and took them in as their owner but as he was walking home, he bumped into a strange man, and ever curious he decided to follow realizing the man was exchanging mutagen ooze with another man that looked similar. He had no idea who they were until years later but he discovered a transaction between two members of a alien race called the kraang, a alien race that intended to take over the earth as theirs. Yoshi got caught and was confronted but he managed to escape, unfortunately the ooze broke, spreading onto him and the turtles. He mutated into a rat, which was the last thing he touched, and his turtle pets became humanoid babies. At first he had no idea what to do with the four babies under his care but he kept them alive and gave them a safe haven. But as time went on he became close to the babies and eventually viewed them as his new sons. He eventually found a home for them under the sewage tunnels, in a abandoned train station and raised the babies as their own, keeping their lives in secret due to the kraang searching for them. He named them after his favorite artists in his favorite period in art. He named his eldest Leonardo, his second eldest Donatello, his third eldest Raphael and his youngest Michelangelo. As years went by things were somewhat simple, it was hard to survive but overall life was relatively pleasant.
Then came the boys 15 mutation year anniversary. The boys begged for him to be allowed to the surface and finally he complied. He then was unsurprised to see the boys come back with a story that aliens in robot bodies came and attacked them, along with a human girl. Said girl was captured and splinter at first thought it was best his boys hide away but Donatello rightfully corrected him that a girl needed their help. So splinter decided in order for his boys to succeed in battle they needed to be a team, which needed a leader. He chose his son Leonardo and the turtles eventually managed to rescue the girl, who was named april o'neil. As time went on he not only helped his sons fight against the kraang but with other matters. Splinter observed that april had a sensitivity and heightened senses that took years of his life to receive, and as such he asked if she wished to be his student. She of course agreed and he taught her alongside his sons. As time went on, his boys became more prepared to face the kraang due to the kraang attacking the city and the turtles being the only ones overall capable of the kraang. They became much stronger and better skilled, to the point where splinter questioned if he was really needed. Enter Dr. Falco, a prior enemy of the turtles, who gained powers that controlled rats to a physic level. Including splinter himself. Tempted by the fear of abandonment, falco managed to gain control of splinter but thanks to the turtles he managed to snap out of it. Which lead splinter to try to let his boys go more because that was inevitable. He eventually prepared them in case Oroku Saki, also known as shredder, returned to harm them. Which he eventually did.
Shredder managed to receive a trade with the kraang, in return for april the kraang would assist in taking down splinter and the turtles. Their alliance had only increased but splinter managed to fight and confront saki after all these years of hiding. Where he also learned his daughter miwa not only survived but was raised by Saki himself. Saki manipulated the girl her entire life to believe Yoshi was the one to kill Shen and not saki. Splinter, outraged, nearly killed him but managed to meet his daughter in person who confronted him instead. Miwa, now karai, attempted to take his life but splinter escaped unable to strike his own daughter. He left stuck in his own turmoil until Leonardo confronted him on it one day. Due to karai under the impression splinter killed her mother, which was tang shen, karai told Leonardo this but he didn't believe her. Splinter then told him the truth: That karai was miwa. Leonardo then decided one day to tell her this truth, and splinter was uncomfortable with confronting her but felt it was right so she could make her own choice. Eventually karai learned of her true parent and eventually turned against saki, reuniting with splinter. But karai wanted the whole truth and splinter confessed honestly of the true story. Karai, angered by the lies, wanted revenge but he encouraged her not to. She however didn't listen and ended up captured, and mutated into a snake mutant. They lost sight of her again, but they had the invasion of the kraang for a second time thanks to saki alliancing himself with them permanently, he nearly lost his life but was saved again thanks to his sons.
They didn't find karai much to his sadness. He did eventually reunite with her only for her to get brainwashed by saki to destroy him and the turtles. She eventually planned a trap to kill the turtles and lure splinter himself out. He confronted karai, begging for her to stop. It took his healing magic, a trait very few ninjas could tap, to free her from the brainwashing but she disappeared during the chaos of the fight. He was about to search for her but got confronted by a race of triceritons invading the world to destroy the kraang. Desperate to save the world, he begged for saki's power and alliance and at first saki agreed only to kill him. Fortunately there was a alternate timeline and the turtles used said timeline to rescue him, which they did and splinter was once again alive. Splinter outraged by shredder's betrayal beat him to the point of needing the hospital. He also reunited with karai only for her to tell him she was planning to take down saki's empire and make it her own. Splinter insisted that this anger she carried would harm more than anything but she didn't really agree and decided to keep going. Only to get captured once again from a newly mutated shredder. Shredder and him had another battle where splinter was beaten so severely he nearly died. He was lost deep into a abandoned tunnel, nearly hallucinating but he was found by Michelangelo and Donatello. He was healed quickly but had a limp in his leg due to the event. Then was one final battle that did in fact cost him his life one last time: A battle that nearly killed his own sons too but he was too worried about the life of his son and april then his own. He got impaled and fell from a great height.
Only to be revived here. Thanks to his body being discovered by the rebellion. He was clinging to life when he was found and was healed by them. He wants to take advantage of his newly given life by assisting the rebellion. And definitely return to his family
