He went into denial afraid of losing his friends and family. But bottling up his powers and emotions backfired in a big way and he ended up having to leave his family while they had to relocate for their own safety. Gabe was heartbroken not only to separate from his family but his brother's fear in him. His parents visited often as they could and to Gabe's sadness, his brother stopped coming. His parents would always say he was too busy but he knew his brother feared him. Which made Gabe feel so bad about his abilities. He felt like he lost his brother. His parents told him that he'd get over it but sadly he never did. Gabe soon stopped asking about his brother and his parents stopped mentioning him.
Despite this, he soon grew to love being a mutant and his powers. He'd always loved the water. Since he no longer had to hide his powers he took it up again having avoided the water for so long. it soon became one of his favorite things. Xavier became like a second father to him and Jean Grey like a big sister because they talked to him, and helped him with his empathic abilities and other problems. He often confided in them when he had problems. He was hesitant to make new friends at the school afraid they'd hate him or fear him like his former human friends. But he was glad to be wrong finding a lot of new friends at the school. People who liked him and accepted him.
Over the years he gained a love of medicine. He wanted to be a doctor or a nurse. He wasn't sure which yet but he was determined to get his wish. His favorite food was hot dogs and he loved the color blue. His hair started out blonde when he'd first come to the school but he'd soon died it black as the blonde hair brought back too many memories of his old life. He took up judo as a martial arts style to help keep himself calm and focused so he could utilize his powers better. He's bisexual having crushes on several of his classmates but not acting on them. He did date others from town though but sadly couldn't find any lasting relationships. He still longs to find the right person to share his life and dreams with and knows they're out there. Somewhere.
He hates the word "freak" as some called him that when his powers first manifested and flinches at the word even to this day. He's a big Anime fan watching a ton of shows growing up like Digimon, Pokemon, YU-GI-OH, Dragonball, and Sailor Moon to name a few. He'd seen the dubs in English first before learning of the changes and began watching the subbed versions. He still hasn't gotten through them all and watches them when he can. Taking breaks from studying and homework to do so.
History:
Birth and A Tragedy: He was born to Jacob and Mary Quinn. They had been trying for a child for years and finally had their miracle child. They gave him the name Gabriel but sadly things didn't turn out well for the couple. On the way home, they were hit by a drunk driver. Mary shielded Gabriel with her own body. Gabriel narrowly survived and was taken to the hospital. His parents didn't survive the crash and were buried in a local cemetery. After recovering in the hospital Gabriel was adopted by the Garcia family. Carlos and Rosa had been the only parents he ever knew. And he had a brother Paul he wouldn't have gotten with his old family.
It Starts: His parents were both mutants. One an empath and one an elemental. He'd gained powers from both of them. His gene started to manifest when he was eight years old. His first powers were empathy. He could feel people's emotions. When he asked about them people dismissed it as a smart and intuitive child. Or a magic trick.
Afraid: Then he gained his power over water able to manipulate water and even use it for healing. One day when he was nine years old he scrapped his knee while running. He dropped a cup of water as well and before he realized what he was doing he'd used the water to heal himself. He began to grow scared of these powers afraid he'd be taken away like other mutants. He began to hide them and thought maybe if he didn't use them he could be normal. And it worked for about a few weeks until he accidentally made the rain at school rain on other kids around him instead of himself. When he got to the bus they were soaked but he was dry and this labeled him as a mutant. A freak.
Training: Soon his family was visited by Charles Xavier who asked to train him about his abilities. He also learned he was adopted and that his parents had been mutants. He wasn't sure he wanted to go until he saw the fear in his brother's eyes. It had only been for a moment and his brother had tried apologizing but Gabriel made up his mind. To go to learn about his powers and keep his family safe. He learned his family would move away to avoid persecution for having a mutant in the family and he'd grow up at the Institute with them visiting him when they could. He'd miss his family but decided it was for the best.
The Institute: He spent the next nine years training at the Institute. Learning his school subjects, and how to develop his powers. He even got private tutoring with Jean Grey and Professor Xavier about his mental abilities. While others helped him learn to control his elemental abilities. He was far from an expert as his abilities after nine years but he could at least control them without hurting anyone with his abilities.
Nurse Garcia: He became fascinated with healing thanks to his powers and alternate methods and decided he wanted to be a doctor. He knew it would be awhile before attending a medical school. So he volunteered in the infirmary helping those he could with his healing power and also learning other various ways to help when his powers weren't enough or would likely exhaust him.
The Dare: He got a tattoo when he was 16 on a dare. Thankfully no one said what kind of tattoo so he'd gone with a wave symbol on his ankle. His friends had gone with him and were surprised he'd gone through with it. After that, he wasn't dared to do anything like that as people knew he might do it. Thankfully he didn't get into too much trouble when it was found out. Living in a mansion with telepaths make it nearly impossible to keep secrets.
The End Of The World: Then the Earth was attacked and he was separated from everyone. He soon arrived at the Rebellion reuniting with Piotr and learning Ororo was captured at the moment.
Powers/Abilities:
Water Healing: Gave can use water to heal himself and others by absorbing water molecules and transfer healing into the body. Or having water molecules repair and regenerate damaged cells. Internal injuries are harder to heal at times. If the wound is too severe Gabe may not be able to heal them completely. But he's pushed himself too far sometimes trying to heal patients and exhausted himself in the process but succeeding just barely. Often needing water and rest afterward.
Hydro Kinesis: Gabe can shape and manipulate water from the water around him. The bigger the body of water he controls the more exhausting it can be on his body. Weak to electrical attacks which could backfire and strike Gabe or others around him. If someone has sand powers they could potentially absorb particles in the water that would cancel out the attack as well. He can form a ball or sphere of water with enough concentration but if he's distracted the ball will turn back into water and fall to the ground. He can empty a river with ease to stop a fire or launch an attack. But medium bodies of water like lake and ponds he'd only be able to take about a half of it before feeling tired. And if he took water from the ocean it would seem even less as it'd be hard to tell he used any at all. This is his usual limit. If necessary he can push beyond it but it tires him that sometimes he ends up passing out from mental and physical exhaustion. So he keeps to his limits but tries to "Raise the bar" so he can handle more but gets frustrated when he doesn't improve as much as he would like.
Empathy: The ability to feel the emotions of others. The drawback is without control these feelings can overwhelm you which they did at first to Gabe. But in time he was able to control them. This made his powers go out of control enhancing them to dangerous consequences. One of the reasons he went to learn at the school to learn how to block them and only use his ability with permission.
Empathic Healing: This allows Gabe to heal emotional wounds. He can also take the pain of physical wounds into himself so the victim no longer suffers.
Fluent In Two Languages: He's fluent in English and Spanish as his adopted family were Hispanic. Sometimes when he's really angry or upset he slips into Spanish confusing anyone around him who doesn't speak the language.
Medical Training: He knows basic first aid and has worked in the medical ward getting to know a lot of things. He is humble in his skills believing he's average but is more of a prodigy of sorts in this field. He's read and absorbed so many facts and information about it even borrowing books from the medical ward or school library to learn more. He still needs to go to medical school to learn more but he's not likely to make as many mistakes while helping treat injuries.
Swimming: He loves swimming and he gave it up when he first learned about his powers. But after gaining control he became really fast. He's not near Olympic speed swimmers but still faster than average people. And when he uses his powers he can go even faster. He didn't know if he'd ever join the X-men one day or another team but he figured his powers and swimming abilities could help him if he needed to rescue anyone out at sea.
Holding His Breath: He can hold his breath underwater for about four minutes before he has to surface. Some have nicknamed him a merman cause of that but it also helped him as he can swim faster underwater when he needed to.
Judo: He took judo lessons from a local master in New York. He wanted to be able to protect himself and knew he couldn't always use his powers. He didn't want to be a victim or known as a freak. It also helped keep him calm which helped him with his empathic and water-based abilities as well.
Weaknesses:
His empathy and empathy heailng are temporary and tend to wear off after awhile. He's mortal so he can still get hurt or killed so he has to be careful.
Allies: X-men; Rebellion.
Enemies: Loki's army.
Plans: help rescue Ororo and others from Loki's army; fight in the war; gain a romance; help form a medical staff for the rebellion.
